2022 Merlot

Clay loam, serpentine and cobblestone

Los Olivos District
![]()
Santa Ynez Valley
Winemaking:
From a single site in Los Olivos District comes this old vine celebration of all we love about Merlot. Planted own-rooted in clay and riverstone in 1974, at what was then called Santa Ynez Vineyard. We’ve loved this site for five vintages strong, and chose to highlight the vineyard as a single expression for our 2022 Merlot, so perfect was the season. Vinification was 100% de-stemmed, in stainless. The wine aged in neutral 59gal barrique for 14 months before being combined under December’s new moon, and bottled December 18th, 2023.

Remaining in their individual lots for 11 months, the three lots were then racked together one (new) moon before bottling. Along with a dash of Merlot to bring a layer of gentle embrace to the blend.
