2022 Merlot
Clay loam, serpentine and cobblestone
Los Olivos District
Santa Ynez Valley
Winemaking:
From a single site in Los Olivos District comes this old vine celebration of all we love about Merlot. Planted own-rooted in clay and riverstone in 1974, at what was then called Santa Ynez Vineyard. We’ve loved this site for five vintages strong, and chose to highlight the vineyard as a single expression for our 2022 Merlot, so perfect was the season. Vinification was 100% de-stemmed, in stainless. The wine aged in neutral 59gal barrique for 14 months before being combined under December’s new moon, and bottled December 18th, 2023.
